Indian Standard Institute has developed IS 14426 1997 Chlorinated Paraffin (CP)- Specification which relates to Chlorinated Heavy Normal Paraffin (CHNP) and Hence can be referred for Chlorination of Paraffin range of C13 – C17.
 
Description of material
  • The material shall be clear liquid having almost 80 HAZ colour for Chlorinated Normal Paraffin and 150 HAZEN for chlorinated HNP and free from suspended matter.
  • The material shall be insoluble in water and soluble in commonly used Plasticizers for PVC like DOP/DBP and epoxy Plasticizer
  • Material shall be odourless or with slight odour which is not unpleasant
  • Material shall have a refractive index from 1.48 to 1.53
  • PH of material shall be 5.8 to 6.0
  • Chlorine content shall be as per application and particular requirement
  • Viscosity , paraffin range shall be as per application
  • Material shall be free from free HCL , free chlorine & free moisture.
 

 
  Uses of CPW Plasticizers
  • In PVC formulations of PVC wires, Footwears.
  • In PVC films.
  • In PVC Rexine cloths.
  • In PVC Coating.
  • In rubber gasketing & Rubber belts.
  • In mixing in Lubricants for proper viscosity.
  • In PVC Flexible pipes, Hoses, Suction pipes etc.
Common uses of various Chlorinated Paraffins
ShivaSuper (SS.NP)
In PVC formulations of foot wear, Flexible pipes, PVC Flooring, PVC rexine, PVC cloth and house wiring and cables with modest insulation value.
Shiva Super (SS HNP)
In PVC formulations of high insulation resistance like cables, suction pipes and other application of PVC formulation where more mechanical strength is required in flexibility.
Polychlor (PC)
In reprocessed PVC formulations and low quantity flexible pipes, footwear and house wires.
